Government delegation to attend Kulsoom Nawaz’s Lahore funeral

ISLAMABAD/LAHORE: A ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) delegation representing the Federal and Punjab governments will attend Begum Kulsoom Nawaz’s funeral and burial ceremony in Lahore on Friday (today), ARY News reported.

According to details,  a delegation comprising Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar, Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar and National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaisar will reach Sharif family’s Jati Umra residence to attend the funeral and burial ceremony.

Kulsoom Nawaz, the wife of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, will be laid to rest near the graves of her father-in-law Mian Sharif and brother-in-law Abbas Sharif at Jati Umra after funeral prayers that will be led by famed religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel.

Kulsoom Nawaz’s funeral prayers offered in London

The flight carrying Kulsoom Nawaz’s casket landed at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore in wee hours on Friday after a short ceremony and funeral prayers in London.

Shehbaz Sharif, Asma Nawaz, and ten other members of the Sharif family accompanied the coffin on the flight (PK 758) to Lahore. Sons of Hussain Nawaz have also come along with the body of their grandmother.

The lady breathed her last at a hospital on September 11 at hospital in London after a prolonged illness. The political career of the former first lady remains far from any controversy, unlike embroilment of her family members in different cases.

Born into a Kashmiri family in Lahore, she attended Islamia College and Foreman Christian College University for her graduation. Kulsoom was married to Nawaz Sharif, with whom she has four children. Kulsoom Nawaz served as the President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) from 1999 to 2002.
