British Govt refuses to deport absconder Ishaq Dar

LONDON: Ishaq Dar, declared proclaimed absconder by the courts of Pakistan, can not be deported to Pakistan as the British government has turned down the Pakistan’s plea of his deportation.

According to ARY News sources, the government of Britain has said that there is no extradition treaty between Islamabad and London for the exchange of  wanted criminals, therefore, the request of Pakistan to deport its former finance minister stands rejected.

Nevertheless, there is a margin in British law to grant such request, but for that the government of Pakistan will have to officially approach the British government, according to the sources.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan had directed the authorities concerned to continue to take measures for the repatriation of former finance minister Ishaq Dar.

The Ministry of Interior had cancelled Dar’s diplomatic as well as normal passports, besides blacklisting him. At present, the former finance minister doesn’t have any travel documents.

The Additional Attorney General had informed the apex court there are certain ways to bring Dar back to Pakistan. One of the ways entails that the government approaches the UK courts for the purpose, he explained.

A NAB prosecutor informed that the assets and properties of the former finance minister, who has been declared a fugitive by an accountability court in an assets case over absence, have been identified and that the proceedings to confiscate them are underway.
